A few months ago we got a bunch of Intel Mac minis (Intel Core Solo). We got 64 for automation and a some others for testers to use. When I saw the pile of boxes sitting in the hall to be recycled, I knew I had to save them. We piled them into my office knowing that there would be something I could do with them, but I just didn't know what or when. A few weeks later, it hit me. I opened up OmniGraffle and sketched out the plan:
The Plan
For those of you not experienced with pixel art, what you see above is the Apple logo. I might add that it's very hard to come up with something that will look like the Apple logo with so few pixels. Seriously, try it. Once I got something that looked good, I got
Joe to come and help me out. It took a bit of effort, but with Joe's help and some double sided tape, we got it finished:

Awesome idea - I wish a) I had enough minis and b) thought of the idea myself.
Okay, so I think we can color it a'la the six-color logo if we make the bottom row one color, then go by groups of two rows working up.That gives enough weight to each color that it would look rather nice.
Now... do we use hilighters? Colored celophane?
64+ minis for $30,000? Is that the "competitive upgrade" discount? :)

No, that's me just underestimating because I couldn't remember how much we paid for them, so I guessed low just to be safe.

You should know that if you make only a few minor adjustments, you'll have the original System 7 (and earlier) Apple logo (source). The only problem is that it would use only 63 boxes, not 65.

Get more boxes so you can paint them the colors of the original Apple logo. You know what I'm talking about: Multi-color Logo
Or maybe you could try the glossy red Apple logo...

You get the idea.
That's very creative! I think it is cool to make little pieces of art from smth that can look completely useless from the first sight. Gotta give it a try myself!
